Music. Moments. Memories.
Window World & MerleFest
Located in Wilkes County, North Carolina at the base of the Brushy Mountains, Window World, Inc. and MerleFest share a home. Wilkes is a close-knit community. We work together, we live together, and when the time comes, we support each other – and there's no better way to engage the community than four days of amazing music, activities, and kinship.
Started in 1988, MerleFest was founded in memory of the legendary Doc Watson's son, Eddie Merle Watson. The idea was to bring people from near and far together to remember Merle while celebrating what Doc called "traditional plus" music. Now one of the premier events of its kind in the country, MerleFest brings an eclectic mix of musical styles and backgrounds together, creating abundant once-in-a-lifetime experiences for those who make the mountain pilgrimage. Whether it's Vince Gill singing backup for Emmylou Harris in 1989, Willie Nelson belting out hit after hit under the stars in 2000, or Dolly Parton swallowing a bug during her evening set in 2001, each year is unique in its own way.
The Impact of Giving
Over the years, MerleFest has become the single largest fundraiser for Wilkes Community College, which enriches the community through education and career development. The money raised from the proceeds of the festival goes towards state-of-the-art training facilities, academic scholarships, and general improvements to the grounds of Wilkes Community College.
No stranger to giving back to our communities, Window World, Inc. is honored to contribute to MerleFest as presenting sponsor of the festival. Altruism has always been at the core of our company values. Through our various partnerships, we have been able to raise millions for cancer research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, fly over 100 special missions for the Veterans Airlift Command, and donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to our local schools. Our partnership with MerleFest is uniquely rewarding because it takes place in our very own backyard, allowing us to witness the change it brings forth in the community firsthand.
